TUCSON, Ariz. – The Macalester College baseball team was defeated by UT Dallas, 21-2, in the final game of the Tucson Invitational. The Scots will enter conference play with a record of 4-8 after their spring trip, entering conference play next Saturday.
Macalester fell behind quicky, with a leadoff single leading to trouble in the first. Two runs were scored in the opening frame off Scots starter
Caleb Chou-Green (San Francisco, Calif./Peddie School). After another two runs in the second, the Scots entered the bottom of the second down 4-0. Junior
Nathan Gumagay (Potomac, Md./ Winston Churchill) reached base through a hit by pitch and his teammates brought him around to score, driven in by a
Holden Peacock (Houston, Texas/Kincaid School) RBI groundout.
The Comets answered by extending their lead to 6-1, before the Scots offense struck again in the fourth inning. After Gumagay doubled to begin the inning, junior
Stephen Paulsen (Middleton, Wis./Middleton) singled to right-center field to drive in the run. Macalester brought the UT Dallas lead to 6-2, before the Comets offense brought the game out of reach. The game ended 21-2 to UT Dallas after seven innings, with Chou-Green credited with the loss (0-2).
The Scots will open conference play with a doubleheader on Mar. 29 at home against St. Johns.
