ST. PAUL, Minn. – Macalester College senior
Caroline Chapon (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) was named the MIAC Women's Swimmer of the Week for the week ending Jan. 26, the league announced today. Chapon won three individual events and swam on a winning relay team to help the Scots defeat Grinnell in a dual meet this past Saturday.
In the first swimming event of the meet, Chapon anchored the Scots' 200-yard medley relay to a first-place finish, swimming a 50-yard freestyle split of 24.78 to help the team finish in 1:50.78. In the individual events, she continued her strong season in the sprints, winning the 50-yard freestyle (25.09) and the 100-yard freestyle (55.65). Chapon currently leads the MIAC in the 50 free with a time of 24.44. Then in the 200-yard individual medley, she nearly broke the school record with a time of 2:10.93, just .33 seconds shy of the record. The time ranks fourth in the MIAC this season.
Along with her top MIAC ranking in the 50 free, Chapon ranks second in the MIAC in the 100-yard individual medley, third in the 100 free, and sixth in the 100-yard breaststroke.
Macalester competes at Hamline's Piper Red Invite on Saturday, Feb. 1.
