ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College men's tennis team won four of the six singles matches to close out a 6-3 win over Concordia College in the first MIAC dual of the season Sunday afternoon at Hayden Tennis Courts. The Scots open the season 1-0, while the Cobbers are now 0-2 overall and in the MIAC.
Macalester won two of the three doubles matches to take a 2-1 lead. Seniors
Owen Lindstrom (Hanover, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville) and
Lucas Wood (Urbana, Ill./University Lab School) defeated Kai Kringlie and Logan Sandberg, 8-7 (7-4) at No. 2 doubles, while first years
Beckett Annes (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) and
Teo Corriente Prieto (Barcelona, Spain/ES American School) beat Hunter Rice and Daniel Skrade at No. 3 doubles, 8-3.
In singles play, Corriente Prieto, sophomore
Kangyu Li (Shanghai, China/Shanghai Southwest Weiyu) and Lindstrom won their matches in straight sets at fourth, fifth and sixth singles. Wood worked overtime to defeat Sandberg, 6-1, 1-6, 10-5 at No. 2 singles.
Macalester will resume its schedule in the spring.
