Peyton Starks (St. Louis, Mo./John Burroughs School) tallied her 1,000
th career point, as the Macalester women's basketball team fell in a MIAC matchup against St. Scholastica, 58-48. The Scots move to 8-8 (5-7 MIAC).
The Saints went up early, 7-3, but the Scots responded quickly. Starks put up back-to-back layups to tie the game with 5:03 left in the quarter. The Saints were sharp from beyond the arc, knocking down three three-pointers in a row, taking a 18-11 lead into the second quarter. Starks led the charge, and after a steal from junior guard

Andrea Palmen (Kenosha, Wis./The Prairie School) to close the gap to three points, 18-15. Yet, the Saints were able to pull away, and lead the Scots 32-19 at the half.

Katherine Norquist (Chicago, Ill./Walter Payton College Prep) continued the offense for the Scots, despite trailing by as much as 16 points in the quarter. In the last minute of the quarter, first year guard
Sydnee Smith (Gainesville, Va./Patriot) and Norquist combined to deplete St. Scholastica's lead to 10 points, 42-32. In the fourth the Scots continued to fight. Macalester went 10-for-10 from the line in the final quarter, but the deficit was too large, and the Scots fell 58-48.
Macalester shot 34% from the field compared to St. Scholastica's 44%. Starks led the team with 21 points while first year guard
Mary Daley (Cumberland, R.I./Bishop Feehan) totaled a team high six rebounds.
Macalester's next game is Monday Jan 22. The Scots host St. Catherine at 7:00 p.m. in the Leonard Center for a non-conference game.
