Women’s Soccer: Scots Blaze Past Northwestern (MN)

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Macalester College women's soccer team took a quick trip over to the University of Northwestern (MN) for a non-conference match this evening. The Scots put on a show, defeating the Eagles 6-0. The Scots are now 2-0-0.

The Scots put the pressure on right from the first whistle. After maintaining possession in the offensive half, first year Adi Nhouyvanisvong (Wayzata, Minn./Minnetonka) gave Macalester the go-ahead goal. She was assisted by fellow first year Julia Hanson (Weston, Mass./Weston). First year goalkeeper Abigail Heuga (San Francisco, Calif./Urban School of San Francisco) made three saves in the half to preserve the lead before Macalester was able to double it. First year Avery Ellis (Chicago, Ill./Lane Tech) put one into the lower left corner in the 39th minute, assisted by fellow first year Timna Nevo (Portland, Ore./Sunset).

Macalester continued to press in the second half, registering 20 shots and forcing the Eagles' goalkeeper to make 10 saves. Nhouyvanisvong tallied her second goal of the night in the 72nd minute, once again assisted by Hanson. Just two minutes later, Hanson got on the scoresheet, netting her first collegiate goal, assisted by fellow first year Abbey Birkey (Grand Rapids, Minn./Grand Rapids). In the 77th minute senior Mia Brisbin (Los Angeles, Calif./Crossroads School) knocked one in to the top of the net. Junior Gabriela Valle (Compton, Calif./Chadwick School) rounded out the scoring in the 83rd minute, with Hanson registering her third assist of the night. Macalester took the game 6-0.

The Scots' next game will be Saturday Sept 9 at 3:30 p.m. The Scots will host Pomona-Pitzer at Macalester Stadium.
