ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College water polo team was ranked 10th in the final Division III national rankings by the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA), the organization announced today. The Scots finished the season with an overall record of 8-11 and took third in the CWPA Division III Tournament.
Macalester, coached by
Scott Reed, went 4-4 in league play during the regular season, losing two matches apiece to No. 5 Augustana College and No. 7 Austin College. At the CWPA conference tournament, hosted by Macalester at Riley Pool, the fifth-seeded Scots defeated fourth-seeded Washington & Jefferson, 14-7, fell to Augustana, 12-4 in the semifinals and beat Connecticut College, 13-4 in the third-place game. Eleanor Michaud (Long Grove, Ill./Adlai E. Stevenson), who scored 10 goals in the tournament, was named to the All-Tournament first team. Senior
Sydney Hollingsworth (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) made the second team.

Elizabeth Matlin (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Adlai Stevenson) were included on the All-CWPA Division III West teams at the end of the regular season.
Among the final top 10 teams, Macalester faced No. 4 La Verne, No. 5 Augustana, No. 7 Austin and No. 9 Chapman during the season. Pomona-Pitzer, who defeated No. 2 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps for the Division III national championship on Sunday, May 7, finishes the 2023 season as the No. 1-ranked team.
