Women’s Basketball: Macalester Falls to Calvin University

LAKE FOREST, Ill. – The Macalester women's basketball team closed out the Lake Forest Tournament today, facing off against Calvin University. The Scots battled hard, but fell to the Knights, 80-48. Macalester starts off the season 1-1.

The Knights got off to a 10-0 lead to begin the game. Points from first year guard Acacia Edmond (Houston, Texas/Shadow Creek) and junior guard/forward Peyton Starks (St. Louis, Mo./John Burroughs School) closed the gap to 15-6 after 10 minutes. To kick off the second quarter, junior guard Nicole Norton (Brussels, Wis./Southern Door) knocked down four free throws. However, the Knights were able to build a lead of 16 points, 37-21 with 2:28 left on the clock. Starks put up four more points in the last few minutes of the half to cut Calvin's lead to 37-25.

Norton and Starks continued to sink baskets, keeping the Scots within 10, 43-33 with 6:49 left in the third quarter. However, the Knights were able to increase their lead to 63-37 by the end of the third. Starks opened the final quarter with a three-pointer and sank an additional basket along with Edmond making a pair of free throws to bring Calvin's lead down to 19. A three-pointer from senior Caitlin Panos (North Andover, Mass./North Andover) and a free throw from senior Jada Northover (San Francisco, Calif./San Francisco University HS) rounded out the game, and Macalester fell 80-48 to Calvin.

Starks led Macalester with 24 points, including going 8-for-8 from the line. Starks also totaled seven rebounds. Norton scored 11 points. Macalester went 75% from the line.

The Scots' next game will be in New Ulm, Minn. Macalester faces Martin Luther on Saturday Nov 18 at 3:00 p.m.
