ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester women's soccer team saw its season come to a close this evening, in the quarterfinals of the MIAC Playoffs. The Scots dropped the game 3-1 to Augsburg. Macalester finishes the season with a record of 9-7-2 (6-3-2 MIAC).
The Auggies went ahead early, with a goal in the 10
th minute by Jayla Ponce. Just four minutes later, Ponce doubled Augsburg's lead off a penalty kick. Senior forward
Mia Brisbin (Los Angeles, Calif./Crossroads School) and junior midfield/forward
Gabriela Valle (Compton, Calif./Chadwick School) had the best chances of the half for Macalester, but were denied by Augsburg's goalie Iz Shuster.
In the second, Augsburg tacked on a third goal in the 63
rd minute. The Scots never gave up and first year forward
Adi Nhouyvanisvong (Wayzata, Minn./Minnetonka) created multiple chances up top. The Scots were able to get a goal back in the 81
st minute. First year defender
Timna Nevo (Portland, Ore./Sunset) slotted the ball into the box and senior defender
Livi Novello (East Lansing, Mich./East Lansing) tapped it in. First year forward
Julia Hanson (Weston, Mass./Weston) almost got another for the Scots, but it went just over the bar. The Scots fell 3-1. First year goalkeeper
Abigail Heuga (San Francisco, Calif./Urban School of San Francisco) made four saves throughout the game. Augsburg moves on to face the No. 2 seed St. Catherine.
Macalester returns 24 to the field next fall.
