Santa Cruz, Calif. – The Macalester College men's soccer team played its third game of the season today against California Lutheran. The Scots left it all on the field, but the Kingsmen walked away with the victory. The Scots are now 1-1-1 this season.
Macalester's senior forward
Milosz Fernandez-Kepka (Las Vegas, Nev./Indiana University HS) got a shot off early in the game forcing a save from the California Lutheran keeper. Sophomore
Hans Haenicke (Lisle, Ill./ Benet Academy) also got off a few shots of his own in the half. However, the Kingsmen took the lead off a freekick in the 32
nd minute.
The second half proved to be a defensive battle. Sophomore goalkeeper
Sam Price (Chicago, Ill./Lane Tech) combined his defensive efforts with his back line of sophomore
Alexis Bromberg (Palo Alto, Calif./Henry M. Gunn), first year
Nick Kent (Minneapolis, Minn./St. Louis Park), senior
Jacob Kresnicka (Elmhurst, Ill./York Community), and junior
Zade Alafranji (Sacramento, Calif./Sacramento Waldorf School/Davis Legacy) to keep the game close. Price made four saves in the second half, five in total, but the Kingsmen were able to hold on to their 1-0 lead for the victory.
Macalester will return to Macalester Stadium for its next matchup. The Scots will host Warburg College on Friday September 9 at 7:30 p.m.
