Tucson, Ariz. – The Macalester College baseball team played its fourth game down in Tucson this morning. The Scots came out with lots of energy against Carthage College. The Scots were hot and defeated the Firebirds 15-5 in eight innings. The Scots improve to 1-3 for the season.

Macalester started off the scoring in the second inning. First yearÂ
Hayes Waddell (North Hampton, N.H./Winnacunnet) doubled to start the bottom of the innings and was sent home by sophomoreÂ
Matt Mukai (Foster City, Calif./Aragon) who singled up the middle. The Scots improved their lead to 4-0 in the third. SeniorÂ
Michael Moreno (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) hit a triple to send fellow seniorÂ
Lian Lincoln (Anchorage, Alaska/South Anchorage) to the plate, to kick off the three-run inning. SophomoreÂ
Matt Odom (Glendale, Calif./St. Francis) then hit an RBI single, scoring Moreno. Odom was able to steal second before scoring off a single by Mukai. The Firebirds would score twice in the next inning, but the Scots would put one on the board as well. Moreno hit an RBI single to plate juniorÂ
Erik Hager (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South). At the end of the fourth, the Scots led, 5-2.

In the top of the fifth, Carthage would score again, to close the Scots' lead to two. However, in the bottom of the inning, Mukai hit a double and then scored off a single from first yearÂ
Caidan Moore (Minneapolis, Minn./Minnehaha Academy). In the sixth, Mukai and Waddell were once again in on the action. Waddell hit a single RBI and scored juniorÂ
Kenny Rodriguez (Bronx, N.Y./George School). Mukai then hit a double to score Waddell, giving Macalester an 8-3 lead. Carthage would score two more runs in the seventh, but from there it was all Macalester. In the seventh, Lincoln sent home juniorÂ
Joe Margolis (Chicago, Ill./Jones College Prep) and seniorÂ
Anthony Palma (Mooresville, N.C./Lake Norman). Lincoln would then score off an RBI single from Odom. Moreno would get plated from seniorÂ
Leonardo Bucello (Bethesda, MD./Walter Johnson) who doubled. With bases loaded, Palma was back up at bat, and was walked, sending Odom home, and the Scots went into the eighth up 13-5. First yearÂ
Bowman Wingard (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) sent in the last two runners, seniorÂ
Anushka Fernando (Silver Spring, MD./Wheaton) and first yearÂ
Evan Burns (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) to win the game 15-5 in eight innings.

Junior
Thomas Windels (New York, N.Y./Episcopal) won the game, striking out four batters. Mukai went 4-for-4 today, scoring a run and registering three RBIs.

The Scots' next game is Wednesday March 16 at 1:00 p.m. CDT. Macalester will play Valley City State (N.D.).
