ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College water polo team kicks off the 2022 season by hosting the Macalester Invitational this weekend at Riley Pool. The Scots will play 16 matches this season, including five at home.

Seven teams will join the Scots at the Macalester Invitational on Feb. 19-20, with Macalester facing Ottawa of Arizona and Chapman on Saturday, and La Verne and Occidental on Sunday. The Scots will head to California for four matches Mar. 4-5 before beginning CWPA conference play Mar. 26-27 at Wittenberg in Springfield, Ohio. Another CWPA weekend takes place April 9-10 at Carthage in Kenosha, Wis. Macalester closes the regular season on April 16 with a home match against Carthage.

The CWPA Tournament will be held April 21-23 at Grove City (Pa.) College, with the two finalists advancing to face two finalists from the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) tournament in the first Division III national championship on May 7-8. The Scots have won the last three contested CWPA Tournaments in 2017, 2018 and 2019.

Macalester, coached by Scott Reed, return eight players from last season, including seniors Annika Krueger (Emerald Hills, Calif./Sequoia), Honor Kalala (Silver Springs, Md./Montgomery Blaire) and Riley Waters (Portland, Ore./St. Mary's Academy). Krueger, junior Eleanor Michaud (Long Grove, Ill./Adlai E. Stevenson) and sophomore Laurel O'Hare (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) earned All-American recognition last spring. The roster also includes six first years this year.
