ST. PAUL, Minn. – Macalester College women's soccer team competed against St. Catherine in the quarterfinals of the MIAC Playoffs today. It was a hard-fought battle, but the Wildcats took the game 3-1.
The Wildcats put one on the board early, taking the lead in the 12
th minute. In response, junior
Ella Thomsen (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) created a chance for the Scots, but was denied by St. Catherine's goalkeeper. Junior
Mia Brisbin (Los Angeles, Calif./Crossroads School), first year
Maia Lemov (Delmar, N.Y./Bethlehem Central) each took shots while junior
Rachel Colson (Denver, Colo./East) had a shot saved. The Scots trailed 1-0 at the half. Junior goalkeeper
Jocelyn Radke (Indianapolis, Ind.) made five saves in the half to keep Macalester within one.
St. Catherine quickly doubled its lead in the 48
th minute. Senior
Lucy Grochulska (Henrico, VA./Henrico) and sophomore
Ella Short (Denver, Colo./Denver East) both pushed the Scots forward and had shots saved by the Wildcats' keeper. In the 72
nd minute, the Wildcats went up 3-0. Grochulska pulled one back for the Scots in the 86
th minute, scoring a penalty. However, the Wildcats won 3-1, ending Macalester's season. The Wildcats move on to the semifinals to face the No. 2 seed Saint Benedict.
The Scots finish the season 8-6-5 (4-4-3 MIAC). Macalester returns 23 athletes to the field next season.
