ST. PAUL, Minn. – Macalester College women's soccer team hosted Carleton College this afternoon, who before today's match was undefeated in conference play. The Scots played well defensively, and earned a point with a 2-2 draw. The Scots are now 7-3-5 (3-2-3 MIAC).
Macalester quickly took the lead in the 16
th minute of the game. Junior
Mia Brisbin (Los Angeles, Calif./Crossroads School) lobbed the ball high into the back of the net for the Scots. Just 15 seconds later, junior goalkeeper
Jocelyn Radke (Indianapolis, Ind.) saved a shot from the Knights to maintain the lead. Defensive pressure from senior
Lily Lorenzen (San Francisco, Calif./Urban School of San Francisco), junior
Ella Thomsen (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto), sophomore
Eva Eiss (Rockton, Ill./Hononegah), and first year
Hazel Waters (Berkeley, Calif./Berkeley) kept Carleton away from the goal. Macalester led 1-0 at halftime.
Carleton fought back in the second, forcing two saves out of Radke before tying the game at one in the 67
th minute. Brisbin would counter after the goal but her shot was saved by the Knights' keeper. The Knights took the lead in the 77
th minute, but the Scots would not back down. They continued to press and attack. Senior
Sarah Hamilton (Chanhassen, Minn./Minnetonka) was able to tie the game at two in the 81
st minute, heading the ball down into the net off a corner kick from sophomore
Mikaely Evans (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard South). The back-and-forth battle ended in a tie, 2-2.
The Scots' next game will be Saturday Oct 22 at 1:00 p.m. Macalester will compete with Saint Benedict, in St. Joseph, Minn.
