Women’s Soccer: Macalester Holds Carleton to a 2-2 Draw

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Macalester College women's soccer team hosted Carleton College this afternoon, who before today's match was undefeated in conference play. The Scots played well defensively, and earned a point with a 2-2 draw. The Scots are now 7-3-5 (3-2-3 MIAC).

Macalester quickly took the lead in the 16th minute of the game. Junior Mia Brisbin (Los Angeles, Calif./Crossroads School) lobbed the ball high into the back of the net for the Scots. Just 15 seconds later, junior goalkeeper Jocelyn Radke (Indianapolis, Ind.) saved a shot from the Knights to maintain the lead. Defensive pressure from senior Lily Lorenzen (San Francisco, Calif./Urban School of San Francisco), junior Ella Thomsen (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto), sophomore Eva Eiss (Rockton, Ill./Hononegah), and first year Hazel Waters (Berkeley, Calif./Berkeley) kept Carleton away from the goal. Macalester led 1-0 at halftime.

Carleton fought back in the second, forcing two saves out of Radke before tying the game at one in the 67th minute. Brisbin would counter after the goal but her shot was saved by the Knights' keeper. The Knights took the lead in the 77th minute, but the Scots would not back down. They continued to press and attack. Senior Sarah Hamilton (Chanhassen, Minn./Minnetonka) was able to tie the game at two in the 81st minute, heading the ball down into the net off a corner kick from sophomore Mikaely Evans (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard South). The back-and-forth battle ended in a tie, 2-2.

The Scots' next game will be Saturday Oct 22 at 1:00 p.m. Macalester will compete with Saint Benedict, in St. Joseph, Minn.
