ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College men's soccer team earned a key MIAC victory on Saturday with a 3-0 win over Hamline University at Macalester Stadium. Sophomore forward
Hans Haenicke (Lisle, Ill./Benet Academy) scored twice and assisted on the other goal to help the Scots improve to 4-3-3 overall and 3-1-1 in conference play. The Pipers drop to 2-8, 0-4 MIAC.
In the 15th minute, Haenicke dribbled down the right side and sent the ball across the face of the goal. Hamline goalkeeper Ethan Schauer got a hand on it, but the ball went through to junior midfielder
Branko Sciortino (Los Altos, Calif./Bellermine College Prep). Sciortino put the ball past Schauer for his fourth goal of the season.
The score remained 1-0 until the 56th minute, when junior defender
Zade Alafranji (Sacramento, Calif./Sacramento Waldorf School) received a long throw from sophomore goalkeeper
Sam Price (Chicago, Ill./Lane Tech) and sent a pass down the right side to Haenicke. Haenicke beat the defender to the ball, then beat Schauer to the short side for a 2-0 lead.
Haenicke closed out the scoring in the 76th minute, dribbling through multiple players into the penalty area and poking the ball past Schauer for his fifth goal of the season. He leads Macalester with 11 points this year.
