Football: Macalester Falls to Trinity in San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Macalester College football team faced an experienced and physical football team in Trinity University on Saturday, losing 64-0 at Trinity Stadium. The Scots, who won their season opener over Minnesota-Morris last week, are now 1-1 on the season, while Saturday's victory marked the start of the 2021 campaign for the Tigers.

Trinity scored two touchdowns within the game's first four minutes and 16 seconds and never looked back. The Tigers took a 43-0 lead by halftime, and scored three more touchdowns in the second half. Macalester was unable to respond, gaining 125 yards of total offense for the game compared to 643 for Trinity. Tucker Horn threw for 332 yards and six touchdowns, while Gerald Daniels rushed for 74 yards and a touchdown for the Tigers.

Junior quarterback Michael Nadeau (Garden Grove, Calif./La Quinta) completed nine passes for 117 yards, including a 45-yard completion to senior Rex Desso (Evergreen, Colo./Lakewood), who finished with four catches for 79 yards. On defense, senior Pierce Lundt (Santa Barbara, Calif./Cate School) had a team-high 10 tackles. Senior John Newton (Highland Village, Texas/Coram Deo Academy) and junior Victor Wright (Cape Coral, Fla./Mariner) each had sacks, while senior Nathan Gottlieb (Torrance, Calif./Torrance) and first year Logan Leybold (Portland, Ore./Woodrow Wilson) each had a half sack. Wright also had a pair of quarterback hurries.

On special teams, senior Jon Neve (Minnetrista, Minn./Mound Westonka) had five punts inside the 20-yard line and two punts of 50 or more yards, including a 59-yarder in the first quarter. First year Josh Bulski (Muskego, Wis./Muskego), last week's hero who returned a kickoff 88 yards for the game-winning touchdown, had a kickoff return of 45 yards.

Macalester has a bye week next week before playing its first MIAC game in 20 years on Sept. 25, when the Scots travel to Northfield to face St. Olaf. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m.
