ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College softball team dropped a MIAC doubleheader to Carleton College, 6-5 and 8-5 Sunday afternoon at the Macalester Softball Complex. The Scots are now 5-7 in the conference and overall, while the Knights improve to 2-8.
Macalester started slowly in the first game, trailing 4-0 after an inning and a half. Senior

Elsa Church (St. Louis, Mo./Kirkwood) in the bottom of the second inning to start the comeback. Church's grounder in the bottom of the third brought home senior
Kate Lawhead (Battle Ground, Wash./Prairie), then first year
Jessica Katzin (Chicago, Ill./Jones College Prep) doubled down the left field line to plate senior
Olive Tambou (San Francisco, Calif./Lowell) in the fourth to make the score 4-3.
The Knights added a run in the top of the sixth, but the Scots answered with two runs in the bottom of the sixth to tie the score at 5-5. Meade tripled to score junior
Emily Bergin (Houston, Texas/St. Thomas Episcopal School), then came home on a sacrifice fly by Katzin. Carleton thwarted the Scots' comeback, scoring the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh on a triple by Cassie Cunniff. Macalester was retired in order in the bottom of the seventh to end the game.
Meade went 3-for-4 while Bergin had two hits to lead the offense. First year

In Game 2, the Scots struck first with a run in the bottom of the first on a single by senior

But then it was all Carleton, as the Knights scored three runs in the second, single runs in the third and fifth, and three more in the seventh to lead 8-1. Macalester staged a late comeback, with four runs in the bottom of the seventh. Katzin had an RBI single and came home on a triple by Church. Lawhead and junior
