ST. PETER, Minn. – The Macalester College men's basketball team ran into a hot-shooting Gustavus squad in an 84-67 loss on the road Saturday afternoon at Gus Young Court. The loss is the fifth in a row for the Scots, who are now 3-5 overall and 0-4 in the conference. The Gusties improve to 4-4, 2-2 MIAC.
Gustavus set the tone early with an 11-0 run over the first four minutes of the game. Senior guard
Gabriel Ramos (Dorado, Puerto Rico/Tasis Dorado) broke the string with a three-pointer and a layup to spark a 19-5 Macalester run to put the Scots out front, 19-16 midway through the half. Sophomore guard
Jon Kazor (Potomac, Md./Georgetown Prep) scored seven points in the run. The Gusties came back by tallying the next nine points to regain the upper hand, 28-22 with 6:05 on the clock. The lead grew to as many as 10 before first year guard
Robert Grace IV (Minneapolis, Minn./The Blake School) hit a three-pointer at the end of the half to make the score 39-32 Gustavus at the break. The Gusties shot 48.1 percent from the field in the first half compared to 36.4 percent for the Scots.

Caleb Williams (Wild Rose, Wis./Wild Rose) to start the second half brought Macalester to within five before five straight points from Kaleb Feahn pushed the Gusties' lead to 10, 44-34. The Scots battled to cut into the deficit, with a conventional three-point play by first year
Jack Hernandez (New Hope, Minn./Hopkins) bringing Macalester within six, 50-44 at the 15:16 mark. After Williams converted a three-point play to make the score 53-47 with 14 minutes to play, the Gusties reeled off a 12-4 run to increase their lead to 65-51 with 10:32 on the clock. Macalester never came within 10 points the rest of the way, as Gustavus led by as many as 20 points to clinch the win.
The Scots shot 46.4 percent from the floor in the second half but were out-rebounded, 43-22 for the game. Hernandez had his best game as a Scot so far with 17 points and seven rebounds. Williams finished with 11 points and five boards, while Grace tallied 10 points. Kazor ended up with seven points and a team-high six assists. Feahn led all scorers with 29 points, including five three-pointers.
Macalester continues its MIAC schedule with a game at St. Scholastica on Wednesday, Dec. 8. The game starts at 7:00 p.m. in Duluth, Minn.
