ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College water polo team is ranked 10th in the final Division III national rankings by the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA), the organization announced today. The Scots posted a 5-3 record before the season was canceled due to the circumstances surrounding the COVID-19 virus.
Macalester, coached by
Scott Reed, went 3-1 against conference competition on Mar. 7-8 at Monmouth College. Senior
Oriana Galasso (Gresham, Ore./Central Catholic) scored 20 goals over the four matches, while fellow senior
Cara Mullery (Palmetto Bay, Fla./MAST Academy) tallied 12 goals, as Macalester beat Carthage, Monmouth and Wittenberg, and lost to No. 5 Austin.
Galasso, a two-time All-American, registered 36 goals and six assists for 42 points this season. She finished her career with 176 goals, 70 assists and 246 points in 66 career matches. Mullery, who also earned All-American honors twice in her career, tallied 13 goals and 12 assists for 25 points this spring.
