NORTHFIELD, Minn.- The Macalester College women's basketball team lost in heartbreaking fashion to St. Olaf College on the road. After falling to the Oles, Macalester finished the season at 1-24 (0-20 MIAC) while St. Olaf finished the regular season at 9-16 (6-14 MIAC).
After Macalester won tip-off, sophomore guard
Celine Sabbagh (Eau Claire, Wis./Regis) came down the court and drained a three pointer. The Oles answered back with a deep ball of their own to tie the game 3-3 early on. Senior guard
Holly Hull (Overland Park, Kan./Blue Valley Northwest) tied the game up at 7-7 after a junior guard
Katie Sowerby (Mill Valley, Calif./Tampalpais) steal. The Oles took a 17-16 lead into the second quarter.

Justine Barraza (Burbank, Calif./Harvard Westlake) made both free throws after getting fouled to make the score 21-18. The Oles got into foul trouble early and the Scots cashed in at the charity stripe by shooting 9-of-10 over the course of the second quarter. Macalester trailed 33-32 going into halftime after Hull made a last second shot.
Sabbagh knocked down another three pointer to give the Scots a 35-32 lead after halftime. The Scots offense started to click on all cylinders and got out to a 50-40 lead for their largest lead of the game. Macalester took a comfortable 54-46 lead into the final quarter of the game.
The Oles went on a small 4-0 run to start the fourth quarter. With the Scots holding onto a 54-50 lead, Barraza pushed the lead back up to six with two big free throws. St. Olaf tied the game at 56 with 7:19 left in the game. Both teams continued to fight with neither team gaining much separation. Barraza and Hull combined for five points to stretch the lead the Macalester lead to 63-58. After the Oles took a 66-63 lead with 1:08 left, Barraza responded by nailing a three pointer to tie the game at 66. St. Olaf rebounded its own miss on a shot and made a jumper with just over a second left in the game. The Scots were not able to get a clear shot off with the remaining time and lost 68-66.
Three Scots scored in double digits, Barraza led both teams in total points scored with 21. Barraza was 8-of-8 at the free throw line and added seven rebounds, two assists, and one steal. Sabbagh tallied 12 points on the day with six rebounds, one assist, and one steal. Hull scored 10 points on 5-of-9 shooting.
