MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Macalester College men's basketball team held off a late charge by Concordia College to earn a MIAC victory, 73-70 Wednesday night at Memorial Coliseum. The Scots complete the season sweep of the Cobbers and improve to 8-16 overall and 5-14 in league play, while Concordia falls to 2-22, 0-19 MIAC.

Shane Anderson (Fargo, N.D./Davies) scored eight points and senior guard
Nathan Davies (Aitkin, Minn./Aitkin) and junior guard
Gabriel Ramos (Dorado, Puerto Rico/Tasis Dorado) each had five points in the run. The Cobbers scored the next 10 points to pull to within three, only to have the Scots answer with seven straight points to lead 30-20 with 5:09 left in the half. Sophomore guard
Eric Sathy (Cupertino, Calif./Homestead), senior guard
Nikhil Smith (Augusta, Ga./Lakeside) and Davies hit consecutive threes at the end of the half to send Macalester into the break with a 41-30 advantage. The Scots shot 55.6 percent from the floor while limiting Concordia to 37.1 percent shooting in the first half.
Early in the second half, the Cobbers closed the gap to four points twice before Macalester used a 15-6 run capped by a three from sophomore guard
Lucas Leiter (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Eagan) to lead, 61-48 with 10 minutes remaining. A resilient Concordia squad battled back, scoring 12 straight points to pull to within one, 61-60 with 5:23 on the clock. A basket from junior guard
Tyler McFarland (Denver, Colo./New Hampton School) and free throws by junior forward
Jackson Henningfield (Lake Mary, Fla./Lyman) pushed the lead up to five, 65-60.
After the Cobbers cut the deficit to two, 68-66 with 2:23 left, Ramos hit a pair of free throws and McFarland scored again to make the score 72-66. Two free throws by Tommy Schyma and a basket from Braeton Motschenbach sandwiched around an Anderson free throw brought Concordia to within three, 73-70 with eight seconds to play. After a Cobber foul, the Scots missed two free throws, giving Concordia a chance to tie with three seconds on the clock. But a desperation shot at the buzzer was off the mark, and Macalester earned the road victory and season sweep.
The Scots went to the line 24 times (making 16) compared to seven trips for Concordia, and made 9-of-19 from beyond the arc for the game. The win gives Macalester its highest overall and conference win totals since 2016-17 and tops last year's records of 7-18 and 4-16.
McFarland scored 12 of his career-high 16 points in the second half, making 5-of-8 from the floor and 5-of-6 from the charity stripe.
