Men's Tennis: Scots Fall to Bethel in MIAC Quarterfinals 5-3

BLOOMINGTON, Minn.- The Macalester men's tennis lost to Bethel University in the MIAC quarterfinals today 5-3. In a very close match, which include three three-set games, the No. 4 seeded Scots fell to the No. 5 seeded Royals.

In singles, No.1 sophomore Sam Hochberger (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) lost in three sets 6-4, 3-6, 7-5. The first win of the day for Macalester came from the No. 2 singles first year Jeffrey Jorgensen (Menlo Park, Calif./Menlo-Atherton) who won 6-1, 6-3. Jorgensen finished the year 8-2, including the playoff match, in the conference. No.6 senior Matt Yang (Bethesda, MD./Walt Whitman) beat his opponent 6-2, 6-2.

Yang and senior Peter Willenborg (Storrs, Conn./E.O. Smith) were successful in their doubles match and won 8-6.

The Scots, who will graduate seniors Yan and Willenborg, finished the year 13-6 overall and 6-3 in the MIAC.
