Softball: Macalester Finishes Season With Split to Bethel, Migacz Breaks Record

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College softball team split with Bethel University today. In their last doubleheader of the season, the Scots won 2-0 and lost the second game 7-0.

In the win over the Royals, the Scots went up 1-0 in the bottom of the third. Senior Samantha Barkan (New York, N.Y./Friends Seminary) hit a single to left field to get on base. Junior Elena Youngdale (Minneapolis, Minn./St. Paul Academy) pinch ran for Barkan and scored off of a single from sophomore Kennedy Kechely (Rochester, Minn./Mayo).

The Scots doubled their lead and sealed the win in the bottom of the sixth. Kechely hit a single to second base to start the Scots off. After two straight wild pitches, Kechely found herself on third. She then advanced home when sophomore Audrey Meade (Cedar Hills, Utah/Pleasant Grove) hit an RBI single. The Scots finished the game out and won 2-0.

Senior pitcher Sophie Migacz (McHenry, Ill./McHenry West) threw the whole first game and four innings in the second game. With that, she became the leading pitcher in Macalester softball history in career innings pitched with 550.2. She will also finish at the top of the Macalester softball leaderboard in wins and shutouts and second in strikeouts thrown.

The Scots lost the second game of the double header 7-0.

The Scots finished the year 16-24 and 8-14 the MIAC.  Junior Julia Carpenter (Stevensville, Mich./Lakeshore) finished the season fifth in the conference in batting average, .443, and second in stolen bases with 23.
