ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College women's basketball team lost a MIAC game to Bethel University, 85-45 Saturday afternoon in the Leonard Center. The Scots are now 1-8 overall and 0-4 in conference play, while the Royals improve to 7-0, 4-0 MIAC.
Macalester struggled offensively from the beginning, shooting 30.8 percent from the field in the first quarter and scoring just 17 points in the first half. After taking a 39-17 halftime lead, Bethel put the game away with a 31-9 run in the third quarter. The Scots outscored the Royals in the fourth quarter, 19-15, with junior guard
Justine Barraza (Burbank, Calif./Harvard-Westlake) scoring 10 points and senior guard
Holly Hull (Overland Park, Kan./Blue Valley Northwest) tallying five points and four rebounds. For the game, Bethel scored 38 points off of 28 Macalester turnovers while getting 33 points from its bench.
Barraza led the Scots with 17 points. Hull finished with nine points, 12 boards and three steals, while junior guard
Katie Sowerby (Mill Valley, Calif./Tamalpais) delivered four assists. Taite Anderson paced Bethel with 19 points.
Macalester hits the road to face Saint Mary's on Wednesday, Dec. 11 in the final game of 2019. The opening tip is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in Winona, Minn.
