ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College men's tennis team beat Concordia College in the quarterfinals of the men's MIAC playoffs today, 8-1.
The Scots swept the Cobbers in singles play with No.1
Sam Hochberger (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) winning in three sets, 1-6, 6-0, 10-7. No. 2
Josh Doyle (Cologne, Germany/Friedrich Wilhelm Gymnasium) beat Eric Porter 6-0, 6-0. No.3
Aidan Tirpack (Mill Valley, Calif./Tamalpais), No.4
Ben White (Parkersburg, W.Va./Parkersburg South) and No.6
Peter Willenborg (Storrs, Conn./ E.O. Smith) also won in straight sets. No. 5
Matthew Yang (Bethesda, Md./ Walt Whitman) won in a close two setter 6-2, 7-6 (7-3).
In doubles, Hochberger and Doyle won 8-6 and Tirpack and White combined to win 8-4.
The Scots move on to the next round to play Gustavus Adolphus on Fri., May 5 at 3:30 p.m. in St. Peter, Minn.
