ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College women's tennis team defeated St. Catherine University, 7-2 in a MIAC dual Thursday afternoon at the Hayden Tennis Courts. The victory wraps up a spot in the MIAC Playoffs for the Scots, who are now 6-8 overall and 5-3 in the conference. The Wildcats drop to 10-5, 3-5 MIAC.
Macalester swept the three doubles matches, with senior
Della Brown (Chicago, Ill./Univ. of Chicago Laboratory Schools) and first year
Laurel Hickey (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) were victorious at No. 1 doubles with an 8-3 win. Senior
Lily Stein (Winnetka, Ill./New Trier) and first year
Natali Sorajja (Rochester, Minn./Mayo) won at No. 2 doubles, and senior
Maegan O'Herin (Grand Rapids, Mich./Northview) and first year
Emma Baker (Bentonville, Ark./Bentonville) won at No. 3 doubles, both by the score of 8-4.
In singles, Hickey, Stein and Sorajja won their matches at first, second and fifth singles in straight sets. O'Herin outlasted Maddy Knoll at sixth singles, 7-5, 4-6, 10-7.
Macalester, which will finish no lower than fifth in the MIAC, host Carleton College on Saturday, Apr. 28, beginning at 2:00 p.m. at Hayden Courts.
