Women's Soccer: Macalester Ends Season With Draw To Gusties

ST. PAUL, Minn.- The Macalester College women's soccer team tied 0-0 with Gustavus Adolphus College today in the Scots last game of the season.

Neither team could produce much offense in the first half with the shot count 4-2 to the Gusties. And each team only had one shot on goal. The Scots best chance came with three minutes to go in the half when first year Carolyn Eckstein (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Randor) forced the Gusties keeper to make a save. But the score remained 0-0 and the teams went into halftime tied.

In the second half, each team came out determined to push for a goal. The Scots had several clear chances to go up as they tallied six shots in the second half. Macalester was denied by the Gusties keeper and the woodwork to keep the Scots off the scoreboard. Sophomore Kate Bond (St.Paul, Minn./St. Paul Academy) had the chance of the game to win it for the Scots when she she chipped the ball over the Gustavus keeper in the 88th minute of the game. But Bond was denied by the post. The game remained 0-0 thanks to sophomore keeper Kayla Togneri (Ventura, Calif./Ventura) saving three shots in the second half.

Neither team could finish off a goal in regular time, sending the game into overtime. In the first overtime, Macalester tallied six shots against the Gusties including two by Bond. Sophomore Georgia Kazemi (Missoula, Mont./Hellgate) forced a save by the Gusties goalkeeper in the 97th minute. Unfortunately, neither team could score and the game ended in double overtime in a tie.

The Scots finished the season 4-8-4 and 1-6-4 in conference play. Sophomore Yukeria Haywood (Stone Mountain, Ga./Marist School) ended the season as scoring leader of the Scots with three goals and one assist.
