ARDEN HILLS, Minn. - The Macalester College baseball team completed its MIAC doubleheader with Bethel University three days after it began, losing 2-1 Friday afternoon at Hargis Park. The Scots, who beat the Royals, 3-1 in Game 1 on Tuesday, are now 21-13, including a 10-6 record in the conference. Bethel improves to 26-6, 11-3 MIAC.

The Royals scored single runs in the second and fourth innings to lead 2-0. In the top of the fifth, sophomore Sam Goldberg (N. Potomac, Md./Thomas S. Wootton) led off with a home run to right field, his third of the season, to make it a one-run game, 2-1. Macalester put runners on second and third in the seventh, and had two runners on in the eighth. But each time Bethel was able to escape, earning a split with the one-run victory.

The Scots used three senior pitchers, with lefty Sam Thomas (Kansas City, Mo./Pembroke Hill) starting and giving up one run on four hits in four innings. Right-hander Doug Lewis (Duluth, Minn./Marshall) allowed a run on one hit in one inning, with lefty Anson Justi (Columbia, Md./McDonogh School) tossing four perfect innings of relief with two strikeouts. Goldberg had two of Macalester's seven hits in the game.

The Scots, who are tied for fourth with Concordia in the MIAC standings, host St. Olaf on Saturday, Apr. 29 in the final home games of the season. The MIAC doubleheader starts at 2:00 p.m. at Nicholson Field.
