TUCSON, Ariz. – The Macalester College baseball team dropped a non-conference game to Dickinson State University, 13-2 Friday afternoon as a part of the Tucson Invitational, held at the Kino Sports Complex. The Scots fall to 7-5 on the season, while the Blue Hawks improve to 10-10.

Dickinson State, a NAIA institution, scored three runs in the second inning and five more in the third to take control of the game early. Macalester didn't get on the scoreboard until the bottom of the sixth, when first year Alex Bearden (St. Louis, Mo./Mary Institute Country Day) hit a two-run single to score senior Quentin Stuart (Nashville, Ind./Nashville) and sophomore Sam Goldberg (North Potomac, Md./Thomas S. Wootton). Bearden and Goldberg accounted for four of the Scots' seven hits on the day with two apiece.

Blue Hawks pitcher Ryan Absher limited Macalester to two runs on seven hits while striking out nine and walking three in seven innings of work. Senior lefty Jamie Progebin (Washington, D.C./Maret) had a solid relief outing, giving up two runs, one earned, on four hits in two innings.

The Scots wrap up their Arizona trip on Saturday, Mar. 18 with games against Illinois Tech and Oberlin, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Pacific at the Kino Sports Complex.
