Women’s Basketball: Macalester Wraps Up Season with Victory at Hamline, 66-52

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College women's basketball team concluded its 2016-17 campaign with a 66-52 victory at Hamline University Saturday afternoon at Hutton Arena. The Scots close the season with an 11-14 overall, including a 5-13 mark in conference play. The Pipers fall to 5-20, 2-16 MIAC.

Macalester trailed 16-10 after the first quarter before getting threes from senior Lauren Clamage (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest Academy) and junior forward Leah Gray (San Rafael, Calif./Branson School) in the second quarter to help to reduce the deficit to two, 23-21 at halftime. The two teams combined to make just 15 field goals in the first half, with the Scots holding a 26-20 rebounding edge.

Macalester's fortunes changed in the third quarter. With the Pipers leading 27-23, the Scots took control of the game by reeling off a 19-2 spree to lead 42-29. First year guard Holly Hull (Overland Park, Kan./Blue Valley NW) tallied six points and first year guard Tyana Loiselle (Bloomer, Wis./Chippewa Falls) had five points in the run, as the Scots scored 14 points in the paint. Macalester never let up, pushing the lead to as many as 17 points before closing out the victory. The Scots shot 56.3 percent from the field in the second half while holding Hamline to 34.5 percent.

Junior center Regan Fruh (Helena, Mont./Helena) paced Macalester with 18 points on 7-of-8 shooting from the floor to go with 11 rebounds and two steals. Loiselle turned in her best game as a Scot, tallying career highs of 11 points, five rebounds and seven assists. Senior forward Park Masterson (Poway, Calif./Poway) ended her collegiate career with a 13-rebounds, eight-point effort, while Hull contributed eight points and 10 boards. Macalester ended up outrebounding the Pipers, 53-32 for the game. Chloe Graves had 11 points for Hamline.

The 11-win season marks the program's highest win total since the 2011-12 squad finished 12-13 overall. Also, Macalester's five MIAC victories are the most since 2011-12.

Along with Clamage and Masterson, seniors Emilie McGuire (Park Ridge, Ill./Maine Township South) and Karen Rathjens (Sudbury, Mass./Beaver Day Country) also played in their final game wearing the Orange and Blue.
