Men’s Basketball: Macalester Drops MIAC Game to Concordia

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College men's basketball team lost to Concordia College, 73-47 Saturday afternoon in the Leonard Center. The Scots fall to 1-4 overall and 0-2 in the conference, while the Cobbers improve to 3-3, 1-2 MIAC.

A pair of threes from first year guard Aidan Toner-Rodgers (Sebastopol, Calif./Analy) helped Macalester jump out to a 14-8 lead early in the first half. The Scots held a 16-15 edge with 13:25 to play in the half when junior forward Wyatt Ferm (Farmington, Minn./Farmington) left the game with his third foul. From that point until halftime, Concordia outscored Macalester, 26-9 to take a commanding 41-25 lead at the break. The Cobbers shot 57.1 percent from the field in the first half while holding the Scots to 25.9 percent.

Momentum stayed with the visitors from Moorhead into the second half, as Concordia reeled off a 21-3 run over the first 11 minutes to expand the lead to 62-28. The Cobbers held a 45-30 rebounding advantage and outscored the Scots in the paint, 40-12.

Toner-Rodgers finished with a team-best 11 points, while Ferm, who returned in the second half, had a game-high 10 rebounds to go with eight points, three steals and two assists. First year forward Jackson Henningfield (Lake Mary, Fla./Lyman) also scored eight points and made all six of his free throw attempts. Bryden Urie led all players with 16 points in leading the Cobbers to their first MIAC win.
