ST. PETER, Minn. – The Macalester College men's soccer team closed out the 2017 regular season with a 2-0 loss at Gustavus Adolphus in a MIAC game Saturday afternoon at Gustie Soccer Field. The Scots drop to 10-5-2 overall and 7-3 in the conference, while the Gusties are now 12-5, 7-3 MIAC.
The result means Gustavus will be the No. 2 seed in the MIAC Playoffs, while Macalester will be the No. 3 seed and will host Carleton on Tuesday, Oct. 31 in the first round.
The Gusties scored the only goal they would need in the 18th minute, as Alex Wilson found the net off an assist from Matt Gibbons. Will Richards tallied an insurance goal in the 83rd minute. Sophomore midfielder
Nick Moore (Georgetown, Mass./Governor's Academy) put both of his shots on goal, as Gustavus held a slight 11-10 edge in shots taken.
Junior goalkeeper
Colton Wenig (Bartlett, Ill./South Elgin) recorded four saves in goal for the Scots, while Matt Bateman had three saves for the Gusties.
Macalester will host sixth-seeded Carleton on Tuesday, Oct. 31 in the first round of the MIAC Playoffs. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m. at Macalester Stadium.
