NEW ULM, Minn. – The Macalester College women's basketball team used a big second quarter to defeat Martin Luther College, 65-57 in a non-conference game Monday night. The Scots improve to 2-1 on the season, while the Knights fall to 0-4.

Leah Gray (San Rafael, Calif./Branson School) helped Macalester take an early 6-0 lead. But Martin Luther outscored the Scots, 14-7 for the remainder of the first quarter to take a 14-13 edge. Macalester took control of the game in the second quarter, turning an 18-18 tie into a 32-22 advantage with a 14-4 run. Clamage and Gray hit three-pointers, while senior forward
Park Masterson (Poway, Calif./Poway) scored five points in the run. In all, Macalester tallied 26 points in the second quarter compared to 17 for the Knights to take a 39-31 lead at the half.
In the third quarter, Martin Luther was able to come to within four points, 43-39 four minutes into the second half. But the Scots answered with a 15-4 spree, including four points from Masterson and Gray's second three-pointer of the game, to lead 58-43 with 4:49 remaining. The Knights were unable to get closer than eight points the rest of the way, as Macalester won for the second time this season.
Fruh led the Scots in scoring for the third straight game with 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the field to go with six rebounds and two blocks. Gray finished with 12 points and a team-high nine rebounds, while Clamage tallied 10 points. Masterson had a solid all-around game with nine points, eight boards and six assists, with junior guard
Vivi Gregorich (Boulder, Colo./Boulder) delivering four assists. Grace Schultz paced the Knights with 15 points.
Macalester travels to Southern California for a pair of games on Nov. 25-26. The Scots take on Caltech on Friday and Occidental College on Saturday, with both games starting at 3:00 p.m. Central.
