MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- Augsburg held Macalester to 15 points and a 26% field goal average in the first half to edge the Scots in Wednesday night Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play. The Auggies forced 21 turnovers and grabbed a 48-37 final victory.
Macalester struggled to put points on the board as Augsburg packed the lane and took away the Scots' inside presence. Augsburg went up by as much as 17 points in the second half before the Scots went on a run of their own sparked by
Vivi Gregorich who knocked down a layup and two shots from beyond the arc to pull the deficit within seven. The late run proved not enough as the Auggies connected on four straight free throws to secure a win.
Macalester drops to 3-17 overall and 0-13 in the MIAC. With the win, Augsburg improves to 11-9 overall and 6-7 in conference play.Â
Erin Murray led the Scots offensively, scoring 13 points on the night including a buzzer beater to end the first half. Murray pulled down five boards and added a team-high five assists.
Gregorich finished with 10 points for Macalester, draining two shots from beyond the arc and both free throw attempts.
Regan Fruh finished with a team-high eight rebounds.
Augsburg was led in scoring by Jessica Lillquist who finished with 13 points and nine rebounds.
On Saturday, Feb. 7, the Scots will return home to compete in the front end of a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. against Hamline.
