NEW ULM, Minn. -- Kyle Bernhard's three-pointer, 53 seconds into overtime, gave Macalester its first lead of the game and the Scots would not relinquish it over the final 4:07 as they ended an eight-game losing streak with a 66-61 win at Martin Luther.
The score was tied eight times during the game, five times in the second half, but the Scots were unable to take a lead during the game's first 40 minutes. The Knights' biggest lead, of eight points, came late in the first half but Dylan Kilgour's three pointer with three seconds to play in the opening 20 minutes cut the lead to five, at 34-29, as the team's headed into halftime.The Scots took advantage of key fouls by the Knights down the stretch, scoring six of their final eight points in regulation from the free throw line, tying the game at 52-52 heading into overtime as
Phil Levine-Caleb hit a pair of free throws with 55 seconds to play in the second half.
Kareem Ismail led Macalester's second-half effort by scoring 12 points and adding nine rebounds, finishing the game with 16 points and a career-high 17 rebounds.
Kyle Bernhard also scored 16 points while Levine-Caleb added 11 to lead a 21-point effort by the Scots' bench.
Next up for the Scots is a return home for a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game, Wednesday, at 7 p.m. as they take on Bethel.
