Macalester's home finale for the 2013-14 campaign was spoiled by the Johnnies of St. John's, who went 9-for-11 on three-pointers and shot 55 percent for the night, to topple Macalester 77-53 at the Leonard Center. The Scots drop to 2-10 overall and 2-16 in the MIAC, while SJU advances to 12-10 overall, 10-7 in MIAC play.
Kareem Ismail (Fy., Pasadena, Calif. / Flintridge Prep) put together a solid game to lead the way for Macalester, finishing with 16 points and seven rebounds.
Sager Moritzky (Fy., San Juan Capistrano, Calif. / St. Margaret's Episcopal) contributed nine points and handed out six assists, while
Griffin Glatt (So., Summit, N.J. / Newark Academy) had eight points and five boards.
St. John's led 30-25 at the intermission and then shot 67 percent in the second half to pull away. The lead grew to 20 at 57-37 midway through the second period.
St. John's was led by Seth Marx with 18 points (he was 6-for-7 on three's), while Blake Maslonkowski and Mitchell Kuck netted 13 points apiece.
The Scots are off until next Wednesday (Feb. 19) when they play at St. Olaf.
