Women's Hoops: Macalester to host St. Olaf in MIAC opener

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College women's basketball team will open up the 2014-15 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference season on Wednesday, Dec. 3 as they host St. Olaf College in a 5:45 p.m. contest at Alumni Gymnasium in St. Paul. The Scots enter conference play with a 2-4 overall record and will face a 3-4 St. Olaf team. Following Wednesday night action, the Scots will travel to Northfield, Minn. for a Saturday, Dec. 6 afternoon match-up against Carleton College (1 p.m. tipoff).

When They Last Met
The Scots closed out the 2013-14 schedule with back-to-back road games in Northfield versus St. Olaf and Carleton.
 
Macalester defeated St. Olaf on Feb. 19, 2014 in a 61-58 thriller as Erin Murray led the way with 23 points, draining six three pointers.
 
The Scots carried their momentum into their final MIAC season match-up vs. Carleton as they took down the Knights in a 74-71 overtime victory.

Looking Back
The Scots are coming off two difficult losses at the Buena Vista Tournament in Storm Lake, Iowa on Nov. 28 and 29. Macalester fell to both Simpson College and Buena Vista University in tournament competition. Sophomore guard Lauren Clamage led the Scots over the weekend, earning All-Tournament Team recognition and posting a career-high 25-point performance.

She's the Boss
Kelly Roysland enters her inaugural season as the Macalester Head Women's Basketball Coach heading into the 2014-15 season.

Roysland comes to Macalester after serving as the interim head coach (2014) and an assistant coach at the University of Minnesota for four seasons (2010-14). Roysland worked primarily with the Gophers' guards, and assisted with scouting and recruiting. She aided Minnesota in securing the 17th-ranked recruiting class in 2011 and the 34th-ranked recruiting class in 2010 nationally. She also helped guide the team's guards to numerous accolades, including six All-Big Ten honors six times, as well as earning WBCA All-Region 6 and WBCA Honorable Mention All-America honors.
 
A native of Fosston, Minn., Roysland was a four-year letterwinner in basketball for the Gophers from 2004-07. She served as a team captain as a senior, and also played one year of volleyball as a fifth-year senior in 2007.
 
Prior to returning to Minnesota, Roysland was an assistant coach at North Dakota State University. She was hired at NDSU in June of 2008, and helped the Bison post back-to-back 16-13 records, including a combined mark of 23-13 in the Summit League.
 
Roysland finished her basketball career at Minnesota ranked 12th (currently 15th) on Minnesota's all-time scoring list with 1,074 career points. She averaged 8.5 points per game over 126 contests for the Gophers, including a team-high 13.2 points per game during her senior season in 2006-07.
  
Roysland earned her bachelor's degree in sport management, graduating from Minnesota in 2007. She went on to receive a master's degree in exercise science from Minnesota in 2009.
