Women’s Basketball: St. Thomas rolls past Macalester

Macalester hosted No. 17-ranked St. Thomas, which turned a 9-9 tie four minutes into the battle into a 42-17 halftime lead and eventually into a 73-34 MIAC victory over host-Macalester Wednesday night.  The Tommies move forward to 14-3 on the season and 12-2 in the MIAC, while the Scots drop to 3-14 overall, 2-12 in MIAC play.

Macalester was led by Erin Murray (So., Sparta, Wis.) with 12 points to go along with four assists.  This is the 11th time she has led the Scots in scoring this season.  Veronika Jakubovie (Sr., Maple Grove, Minn.) added eight for the Scots, who were held to 24% shooting.  UST, on the other hand, shot a healthy 51% and had four players reach double figures in scoring, led by Taylor Young with 13 points to go along with four assists and three blocked shots.

The Tommies led 30-14 in points in the paint and 32-9 in bench scoring.

The Scots return to MIAC action Saturday (Feb. 1) when they host Hamline at 1 p.m.
