Macalester played its first conference game since Dec. 9 and were defeated by St. Mary's 67-51 in Winona. The Scots drop to 2-7 overall, 1-3 in the MIAC after behind held to a season-low in points. St. Mary's improves to 2-7 overall and 1-3 in the league while snapping a six-game skid.
After trailing by four points earlier 14-10, the Cardinals out-scored their guests 30-9 the rest of the period to grab a 40-23 halftime lead. SMU shot 56% over the first 20 minutes.
The Scots out-scored St. Mary's by a point in the second half, as
Kyle Bernhard (So., Sleepy Hollow, Ill. / Dundee-Crown) scored all eight of his points in the second half.
Griffin Glatt (So., Summit, N.J. / Newark Academy) paced the team with 11 points on the night.
Sager Moritzky (Fy., San Juan Capistrano, Calif. / St. Margaret's Episcopal) also had eight points, while
Dylan Kilgour (So., La Crescenta, Calif. / Crescenta Valley) added seven.
Even Pederson paced St. Mary's with 29 points, going a perfect 5-for-5 on three-pointers. SMU out-scored Mac 18-4 in points off turnovers.
The Scots are back in action Saturday (Jan. 4) when they play at Hamline at 3 p.m.
