Macalester falls at Augsburg

Augsburg clinched a third-place position in the MIAC standings by topping Macalester 88-64 Wednesday night in Minneapolis.  The Auggies, now 18-6 on the season and 13-6 in conference play, shot 60% from the floor and led 42-28 at the halftime intermission.

Bert Yaffe (So., Bethesda, Md. / Walter Johnson) was 7-for-12 from the field and led the Scots with 14 points.  He was joined in double-figures by Dylan Kilgour (Fy., La Crescenta, Calif. / Crescenta Valley) with 11 points and Kyle Bernhard (Fy., Sleepy Hollow, Ill. / Dundee-Crown) with 10.  Andrew Matsumoto (Sr., Rochester, Minn.) came off the bench for eight points on a 4-for-5 shooting night.  Sam Marshall (Sr., Sun Prairie, Wis.) dished out five assists and grabbed five rebounds.

Up by 14 at halftime, the Auggies netted the first 10 points of the second period to take a commanding lead.

Augsburg,, which will host a first-round MIAC playoff game next week, had four players in double digits in scoring, led by Andy Seidlitz with 17 points and Noah Veach with 16.  Veach also had six assists.  The Auggies were 11-for-21 on three-point tries.

Macalester closes out the winter campaign Saturday (Feb. 26) with an MIAC game at Bethel.  The Royals are 10-9 and fighting to get into the MIAC playoffs.
