Concordia went out to a 43-23 halftime lead and went on to top Macalester 72-47 in Moorhead. The Cobbers won the battle on the boards 47-30 and keep their hold on third place in the MIAC standings at 6-1. Macalester is 4-6 on the season, 3-4 in the MIAC.
Kyanna Jones (Sr., Brooklyn Park, Minn. / Osseo) finished with 18 points and six rebounds to lead Macalester.
Veronika Jakubovie (Jr., Maple Plain, Minn.) just missed a second straight double-double, netting 12 points and grabbing nine boards.
Taylor Pike (Jr., Ashland, Neb. / Ashland-Greenwood) added seven points.
The Cobbers, who shot 45% on the day, were led by Tricia Sorensen with 23 points. Emily Thesing added 12 points, five assists and four steals.
Macalester led 8-5 in the early going, but Concordia followed that with a 33-10 run to go up by 20 points with 2:58 remaining in the opening period. The Scots out-scored the Cobbers for most of the second half, and trailed by 16 points at 63-47 with 5:30 left. Concordia, however, pulled away with a 9-0 run.
The Scots play host to Gustavus Adolphus on Monday (Jan. 7) at 7:30 p.m.
