Scots denied by St. Ben’s 60-48

Box Score
Macalester had won three of its last four games coming in, but failed to complete the season sweep over St. Benedict as the Blazers ran to a 33-25 halftime lead and went on to beat the Scots 60-48 in St. Joseph.  The Scots were within six points with 4:26 remaining before CSB held on by closing out the contest with an 8-2 run.

St. Ben's held Macalester to a 32% shooting mark and led 25-6 in points off turnovers.  The Blazers improve to 13-11 overall and 10-11 in the MIAC, while the Scots drop to 11-13 on the season, 9-12 in conference games.

Three Scots reached double digits in scoring, led by Shannon Rene (Sr., Eau Claire, Wis. / Memorial) and Holly Schiedermayer (Sr., Waupaca, Wis.) with 11 points apiece.  Rene made all three of her three-point attempts and Schiedermayer also produced nine rebounds and four assists.

Maggie Wood (Sr., Oregon, Wis. / Madison Edgewood) finished with 10 points, four rebounds and two steals.

Like the Scots, the Blazers used a balanced scoring attack.  Brianna Barrett led with way with 11 points, while adding 10 each were Whitney Canton and Elena Koch.  Jamie Wollen picked up four steals.

Four Scots close out their careers when Macalester plays its season-finale Saturday (Feb. 18) against Hamline at the Leonard Center at 1 p.m. on Senior Day.  Macalester seniors are: Jessica Rene, Shannon Rene, Holly Schiedermayer and Maggie Wood.
