Scots fall late to Northwestern

Macalester hosted Northwestern in the second half of a women's/men's doubleheader at the Leonard Center and battled the Eagles throughout a tight second half.  A Sam Marshall (Sr., Sun Prairie, Wis.) jumper tied the contest at 64-64 with 2:45 to play, but the Eagles out-scored the Scots 15-7 the rest of the way to pull out the win.

Northwestern, participants in the past two NCAA playoffs, improves to 3-0 with its second win over an MIAC opponent, while the Scots are now 1-1 going into this weekend's trip to Southern California for a couple games.

Pierce Peters (Sr., Glenwood, Minn. / Minnewaska Area) scored 20 of his game-high 26 points in the second half to pace the Scots and lead the second period charge.  He was 4-for-7 from behind the arc.  Peters moves into the top ten on the school's all-time scoring chart, tying Keith Williams (1985-89) for the No. 10 spot with 1,153 career points.

Dylan Kilgour (Fy., La Crescenta, Calif. / Crescenta Valley) also had a big night, finishing with with 16 points and five assists.  Marshall came off the bench to finish with 13 points and six rebounds.  Macalester's three double-figure scorers combined to go 20-for-38 from the field.  Griffin Glatt (Fy., Summit, N.J. / Newark Academy) led all rebounders with nine boards.

Northwestern shot 49% from the floor and 85% from the foul line.  The  Eagles were led by Wade Chitwood with 21 points and Matt Watnemo with 19.

The Scots play Friday night (Nov. 23) against Occidental in Los Angeles [ live stats & webcast ] and Saturday afternoon against Caltech in Pasadena [ live stats & webcast ].  They open conference play next Wednesday (Nov. 28) at home against MIAC power St. Thomas.
