Augsburg starts fast and topples Scots

Box Score
Augsburg shot 63% from the floor, scored the game's first 21 points, and went on to gain an 86-50 MIAC win over the Scots in Minneapolis.

The Auggies move into a first-place tie with idle St. Thomas in the MIAC standings at 4-1 and improve to 7-3 overall.  Going for their second straight win after toppling Carleton two nights earlier, the Scots drop to 1-10 on the season and 1-5 in the MIAC.

Macalester was led by Pierce Peters (Jr., Glenwood, Minn. / Minnewaska Area), who finished with 20 points, including a perfect 9-of-9 free-throw performance.  He also contributed six rebounds and a pair of steals.  Peters has four straight 20-point efforts and is now averaging 19.0 on the year.

Andy Bowman (Jr., Perry, Kan. / Perry-Lecompton) came off the bench to score eight points and grab five boards.  Bert Yaffe (Fy., Bethesda, Md. / Walter Johnson) and Hans Erickson (Fy., La Crosse, Wis. / Logan) each distributed three assists.

Augsburg led 48-16 at the halftime break and on the night had three players with 15 or more points, led by a red-hot Tyler Schmidt with 20 points to go along with five assists and four steals.  The Auggies drained 7-of-15 from outside the three-point arc.

The Scots are back in action Saturday (Jan. 4) when they host St. Mary's at 3 p.m. at the Leonard Center.
