Bethel went on a decisive 17-3 run in the second half to turn what had been a closely-played contest into an 85-65 victory over Macalester in Arden Hills. Winners of four in a row, the Royals get back into the conference playoff race at 6-6 and are 10-7 overall.
The Royals made 53% of their shots and tallied 49 second-half points against the Scots, who fall to 1-17 overall and 1-12 in the MIAC. Bethel led 36-33 at halftime and was on top 40-37 with 16:00 to play before beginning its decisive rally.
Pierce Peters (Jr., Glenwood, Minn. / Minnewaska Area) led the Scots with 22 points and 10 rebounds and increases his career scoring total at Mac to 984 points. This was his ninth 20-point performance this winter and sixth double-double. Peters also had three assists and two steals.
Justin Wasik (So., Park Ridge, Ill. / Maine South) was successful on 3-of-4 from behind the arc and added 11 points.
Bethel had 48 points in the paint and had two players reach the 20-point mark. Danial Baah led the way with 22 points and Taylor Hall added 20.
The Scots play host Monday (Jan. 30) to defending national champ St. Thomas at 7:30.
