Concordia shot 49% to defeat Macalester 64-52 on a cold night in Moorhead , completing the MIAC two-game season sweep over the Scots.
The Cobbers were up 25-13 with just over three minutes left in the first period before the Scots turned things around by scoring the final eight points of the half and the first seven points of the second period to go on top 28-25. However, Concordia regained momentum and with 9:38 remaining was back on top by 14 points at 51-37 following a 9-0 run.
Led by a 4-for-9 shooting performance from
Jessica Rene (Sr., Eau Claire, Wis. / Memorial) from behind the arc, the Scots were 8-for-20 on three-pointers. Rene and
Holly Schiedermayer (Sr., Waupaca, Wis.) each scored 14 points to pace the Scots. Schiedermayer also contributed nine rebounds and six assists.
Kyanna Jones (Jr., Brooklyn Park, Minn. / Osseo) and
Shannon Rene (Sr., Eau Claire, Wis. / Memorial) each distributed three assists.
Concordia was led by Tricia Sorensen with 20 points and nine rebounds. Alexandra Lippert added 12 points and three blocks, and Emily Thesing scored 10.
Concordia is now 9-6 on the season and 7-5 in the MIAC. The Scots are 6-9 overall, 4-8 in MIAC play.
Macalester plays Saturday (Jan. 21) at Hamline.
