Gustavus led by a single point at halftime before pulling away in the second period for a 71-44 MIAC win over Macalester in St. Peter. The Gusties move to 11-2 overall and remain in second place in the conference standings at 9-1, while the Scots fall to 5-8 on the season, 3-7 in the MIAC.
Maggie Wood (Sr., Oregon, Wis. / Madison Edgewood) netted 12 points and
Jessica Rene (Sr., Eau Claire, Wis. / Memorial) added nine to lead Mac.
Holly Schiedermayer (Sr., Waupaca, Wis.) chipped in with eight points.
The Gusties led 27-15 before Mac responded with a 14-3 rally to get within a single point at halftime at 30-29. Macalester went cold in the second half, scoring only three baskets against the MIAC's second-ranked defense as Gustavus pulled away to win by 27.
Three Gusties scored in double figures, led by Molly Geske with 18 points. Gustavus enjoyed a 30-8 margin in points in the paint and received 12 rebounds from Abby Rothenbuehler.
The Scots play host to St. Benedict on Monday (Jan. 16) at 7:30 p.m.
