Scots lose, but make MIAC playoffs

Macalester vs. Bethel statistics

Macalester lost a 49-45 game at Bethel in the regular-season finale, but has qualified for the six-team Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) playoffs for the second year in a row. With the defeat to Bethel, the Scots needed three other 1 o'clock games go their way and all three did: Concordia beat Hamline, St. Olaf beat Carleton and Gustavus beat St. Mary's.

The sixth-seeded Scots play an MIAC quarter-final game Tuesday (Feb. 22) against No. 3 St. Benedict in St. Joseph at 7:30 p.m.  MIAC Playoff website

Also making the playoffs are No. 1 St. Thomas, No. 2 Concordia, No. 4 Gustavus and No. 5 Bethel.

Majra Mucic (Sr., Zenica, Bosnia / St. Louis Park - Minn.) registered her fourth straight double-double and 14th of the season, finishing with 14 points and 16 rebounds, to lead Macalester.  Kyanna Jones (So., Brooklyn Park, Minn. / Osseo) added 11 points and three assists.

Mucic finishes the conference season as the MIAC rebounding leader with 11.3 boards a game and winds up third in scoring with 15.5 points per contest.

Scottie Moats finished with 19 points and nine boards for the Royals, and Shana Grejtak added 13 points.
