Macalester vs. Bethel statistics
Bethel knocked down a long three-pointer with 1.9 seconds remaining to break a deadlock and defeat Macalester 77-74 in the season-finale Saturday in Arden Hills.
Holden Bigler-Johnson (Sr., Austin, Tex. / Anderson) pumped in a career-best 23 points in his final collegiate game to pace to Scots. Bigler-Johnson went 5-for-9 on three-point tries.
Bigler-Johnson was joined in double figures in scoring by a pair of teammates:
Pierce Peters (So., Glenwood, Minn. / Minnewaska Area) with 16 points and
Kyle Hamblett (Sr., Paris, France / American School of Paris) with 13. Peters finishes fourth in the MIAC with a 15.9 scoring average.
Chris Quinn (Fy., Medford, Mass. / Beaver Country Day) dished out four assists and finishes fourth in the league with a 3.5 assist average.
Bethel scored the first basket but didn't lead again until the 12:17 mark of the second half. Macalester's biggest margin was 12 points at 28-16 with 5:53 to go in the opening period.
The game was close throughout most of the second half. Peters canned a pair of free throw to tie things up at 74-74 with :27 left. The Royals then went for the final shot and won on a tough three-pointer with 1.9 to play by Daniel Baah.
Bethel was just 2-for-12 on three-pointers, but sank 19-of-22 free throw attempts (86%). Greg Meyer paced the Royals with 29 points off the bench (19 in the second half).
