Dramatic comeback falls one point short

All but out of the game trailing 51-33 midway through the second half, Macalester out-scored St. Mary's 18-1 over the final 10:10 of the contest, only to fall one point short in a 52-51 heartbreaker in Winona.

The Scots, who had won four of five going in, drop to 6-12 overall and 6-9 in the MIAC. The Cardinals remain in fifth place in the league standings, improving to 10-7 on the season, 8-6 in conference play.

Majra Mucic (Sr., Zenica, Bosnia / St. Louis Park – Minn.) netted 14 of her game-high 20 points in the second half to lead the way for Macalester, and recorded her ninth double-double of the season by grabbing 13 rebounds.

Kyanna Jones (So., Brooklyn Park, Minn. / Osseo) contributed eight points, three assists and three steals. Shannon Rene had eight rebounds and four assists.

St. Mary's was paced by Cherie Kulig with 11 points and Jess Miller with 10.

The Scots are back in action Monday (Jan. 31) when they host Gustavus at the Leonard Center at 7:30 p.m.
