Macalester vs. St. Mary's statistics
St. Mary's had a one-point lead with less than eight minutes to go in the game and pulled away to topple Macalester 76-63 in Winona. The Scots were held to a 30% shooting figure for the day.
Lamont Diggs (Fy., Fridley, Minn.) turned in a double-double to lead the Scots, finishing with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Pierce Peters (So., Glenwood, Minn. / Minnewaska Area) scored 13 points and
Kyle Hamblett (Sr., Paris France / American School of Paris) tallied 11 to go along with four assists for Macalester.
St. Mary's forward Chris Palmer went 21-for-23 from the charity stripe and finished with 31 points as the Cardinals snap an eight-game skid and move to 9-9 overall and 4-9 in the MIAC. Lukas Holland added 18 points and Will Wright scored 17. SMU was 35-for-43 from the free throw line as the Scots were whistled for 30 fouls.
Leading 64-60 with 2:44 to go following a Hamblett three, St. Mary's held off by out-scoring the Scots 12-3 the rest of the way with a basket and 10 free throws.
The Scots had a good free throw shooting day of their own, going 19-for-24 (81%). Macalester had a +5 turnover advantage and a 16-9 lead in offensive rebounds. Diggs grabbed five offensive boards.
